Alicia and the Inmate

Story: The Lonely
Written By: Rod Serling
Series: The Twilight Zone (Original Series)
Season: 1

Corry is a prisoner, trapped in solitary confinement on an asteroid for a crime.  Punishments are severe in this particular corner of the Twilight Zone.  His only real comfort is every now and then a ship arrives with supplies. When they make their most recent landing they don't have a lot of time for chatter or playing games, they have a schedule to maintain.   He is very disappointed but one of them leaves him something he is really not meant to: a robot female companion.  At first Corry is insulted but he grows fond of her and they become companions, someone to keep him from being so miserably lonely.

I definitely remember seeing this one when I was a kid.  I really like the concept, particularly the ending where Corry learns he is finally, after years stranded and lonely getting a pardon and allowed to go home, is devastated to learn he has to leave his robot friend behind.   Jack Warden is really good here.  I was even hurt when the fate of Alicia happened, and I've seen this a couple times already before rewatching for this review.

NEXT TIME: But That's Not Fair...
